Daredevil Season Two

The first season of Daredevil on Netflix was a huge success for the streaming service, as well as for Marvel. Delivering an impressive, estimated 4.4 million or 10.7% of subscribers watching, at least, one episode in its first 11 days, according to an article in Variety. Daredevil was also a critical success for Marvel with a nearly perfect 98% rating on rotten tomatoes.

It was a grim departure from Marvel's brighter, more colorful cinematic universe and it worked.
Much like Batman, Daredevil is a street level vigilante and the streets of Hell's Kitchen are dark and unwelcoming. Marvel has announced plans for a few stories to tell on Netflix with a more mature tone including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, which is in production now, and in the future Iron Fist. These four properties and a few others such as Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, and Task Master all have more mature tones that would fit perfectly in this darker corner of Marvel's cinematic universe. As mentioned in the Zack Snyder post, I think DC and Warner Brothers are foolishly forcing all their heroes into a depressingly dark and gritty world, and it just doesn't work for everyone.

Marvel has connected these stories to the larger world of The Avengers with overt acknowledgements and hidden "Easter eggs" while at the same time keeping them separate on Netflix. Today the first full-length trailer for the second season of Daredevil was released on YouTube, and it looks exciting. It obviously retains the darker spirit of the first season and the critically acclaimed Jessica Jones series. Jon Bernthal looks like one of the best interpretations of The Punisher yet. It also states that a second part two the trailer is coming on February 25th. The second season premieres on March 18th.
