Mercs, Runaways and Inhumans

I have not had the opportunity to watch Logan yet, so I can't brain out loud a review. The weekend box office has not been revealed yet either, but Friday estimates are available. Logan has earned an estimated $33 Million on Friday. This moves the estimated $60 Million opening weekend north of $80 Million. These numbers are on par with Wolverine X-Men Origins, however, I believe hype alone achieved that as the Saturday numbers for Wolverine X-Men Origins weren't great and the second weekend dropped over 60%. Logan's main competition this weekend is Kong: Skull Island, but as long as there is not a significant drop the cantankerous clawed Canadian may come out on top, judging by the new predictions it may be possible. Until I watch the film, hopefully by mid-week, I have to avoid spoilers.

Unfortunately, one surprise has already been spoiled. Thanks, internet! A teaser for Deadpool 2 played before Logan and as expected the "Merc with a Mouth" is still a humorous and fowl mouthed, fourth-wall-breaking hero trying his best to save the day.

Marvel's Inhumans has had a rough time getting to the screen. First, it was announced as part of Phase 3 of the MCU, then its release date was pushed back and eventually removed from the slate of films altogether. The Inhumans did debut on Agents of SHIELD on ABC adding to the confusion as the status of the movie was still up in the air at the time making the Royal Family strictly off limits. While the Inhumans story arc continues to evolve, for better or worse, on Agents of SHIELD, Marvel Television has rounded up a cast and announced a release date for the series co-produced by IMAX.

Focused on the Royal Family, rulers of Attilan the secluded city populated by the race of half-human/half-Kree alien hybrids with amazing powers, and starring Blackbolt, Medusa, Karnak, Lockjaw the giant teleporting dog, and more. Inhumans will premiere exclusively in IMAX theaters September 1 then the series will be aired on ABC starting September 26.

Marvel's television presence continues to grow with HULU exclusive Marvel's The Runaways. The Runaways were a group of kids and young adults who discovered that their parents were part of an evil secret society known as The Pride. Heroically the rebelled and vowed to dismantle the clandestine cabal. The thing is some of the kids, including fan-favorite Molly Hayes, were mutants and as most nerds are aware Marvel can't touch the mutants in live action form, they can't even use the word. Other than that little tidbit Marvel is well within the rights to adapt The Runaways onto the small screen. The comic debuted under the Tsunami imprint in 2003, not within the pages of another series be it X-Men or The Avengers. As for Molly Hayes, a quick glimpse of the cast list reveals that Marvel simply renamed her Molly Hernandez and rewrote her lineage most likely as an Inhuman. Production of the Runaways pilot episode has wrapped and the series is expected to debut on HULU in 2018.

How or if The Inhumans or The Runaways connect to Agents of SHIELD or the larger MCU has yet to be determined. Marvel has had a notoriously difficult time connecting their television or Netflix shows with their movies (the effort put forth is suspect), hopefully they can at least connect their shows particularity The Inhumans and Agents of SHIELD after all the two will on the ABC network, and HULU is owned partially by ABC's parent company Disney. Perhaps all three shows will crossover.
