Toy Fair 2017 GI Joe reveal

Toy Fair, the annual industry trade show took place over the weekend in New York City, and many new and exciting additions to dozens of toy lines were revealed. However, only one of those revelations concerned GI Joe. The second wave of delightful, vinyl figures with oversized heads from Loyal Subjects were on display and they look great.

The lack of GI Joe content at the biggest toy industry trade show in the country is not surprising. Fans and collectors already know that a large retail roll-out of a new action figure line is contingent on the GI Joe film franchise from Hasbro Studios and Universal. In fact, most if not all of the toys that line the shelves at the local department store are supported by a movie or television show. That said it does concern me that my favorite assortment of action figure, vehicle and play-set merchandise relies on a horrible movie franchise that's struggling to find an audience and is routinely blasted by critics. Plus the major reveals are normally saved for JoeCon, the annual GI Joe Collectors Convention, but we'll have to wait until June 15th for JoeCon.

The 2017 Winter Wonderfest also took place over the weekend in Tokyo, Japan. Wonderfest mainly showcases extremely detailed sculptures of popular anime, game and sci-fi characters. This year Prime 1 Studios reveled a mind blowing assortment of GI Joe and Cobra statues for fan-favorite characters Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, Roadblock and Serpentor.  No details on the price were mentioned, but judging by the quality and the scale they look expensive. Watch the video below to see the detailed masterpieces from every angle. Follow the YouTube links to watch the three-part tour of Prime 1 Studios display at Winter Wonderfest 2017.

Prime 1 Studios also displayed a number of amazing pieces from popular anime series, video games, Magic the Gathering, Marvel and DC characters, as well as Transformers statues from Generation 1, Beast Wars and the movie franchise.
