Black Panther makes all the money

Looks like Marvel has done it again. Black Panther, the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is breaking records and raking in the cash. Ticket pre-sales have surpassed every other superhero movie ever, beating previous record holder Batman v. Superman Dawn of Justice. Black Panther has also outsold all other Marvel movies at IMAX theaters. The film has also shattered the record for a Thursday night opening in February, with an incredible $25.2 Million. Doubling the previous record holder, Deadpool which made $12.6 Million. Black Panther is on track for a $160 - $170 Million opening weekend. Now that the numbers are in Black Panther has officially made $235 Million over the four day President's Day weekend. A massive adjustment from its predicted $90 Million opening. Ranking the film as the fourth most lucrative MCU film to date, following The Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War.

The ratings and reviews are not only stellar, they are also breaking records. Black Panther is currently holding a 97% on RottenTomatoes. Making it the highest rated superhero film ever, beating every other Marvel movie, including non-MCU films like Logan. As well as overthrowing The Incredibles and Wonder Woman.

SPOILER WARNING!

Unless I misheard or don't remember correctly, a newscast T'Challa is watching at the start of the film states that T'Chaka had been killed one week ago. T'Chaka was the Wakanda King killed in Captain America Civil War, back in 2016. Suggesting Black Panther takes place in 2016 and not in present-day 2018. Up until recently, the MCU has taken place concurrently at the same rate of time we experience in life. That seemed to change after Captain America Civil War. If so this makes the after-credits stinger feel as if not enough time has passed. Unless the after-credits stinger doesn't take place directly after Black Panther, much like the teenage Groot scene after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The next MCU film after Civil War was Dr. Strange, it's still hard to tell when Dr. Strange took place, so I'll leave that one out. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set in space so I won't count that one either. Spider-Man Homecoming, on the other hand, takes place shortly after the events of Civil War despite hitting theaters a year later. The opening scene is literally Peter returning home to the Bronx after the airport battle in Germany. Thor Ragnarok is tricky because it is also set in space, but there was that scene in New York where Thor meets Dr. Strange, confirming the film takes place after the Dr. Strange film. Again, its just to damn hard to figure out when Dr. Strange happened. Apparently, Black Panther takes place shortly after Civil War. Avengers Infinity War is next, and I'm guessing the timeline jumps back to present. Peter Parker is still in high school (as seen in the trailer) perhaps this means he is a junior or senior now. It was announced that Ant-Man and The Wasp will take place shortly after Captain America Civil War, putting the timeline in disarray again. The biggest departure will be Captain Marvel, which takes place in 1992.

If all these times are correct that means, Spider-Man Homecoming, Black Panther, and Ant-Man and The Wasp take place roughly at the same time. Forget what I said earlier, judging by the after-credits stinger and the Avenger's Infinity War trailer I'd say Thor Ragnarok also takes place during this time. Just something I noticed that I haven't seen any of the nerd websites discuss.

Anyway, go watch Black Panther! It's awesome!
