Here we go again!

The news, that Disney was in talks with 20th Century Fox about a possible purchase came out yesterday. Marvel fanboy nerds everywhere were excited by the possibility that the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties would finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, before I could even gather my thoughts to brainoutloud the talks stalled.

But hope is on the horizon. Apparently, the reason Disney was meeting with Fox was not to buy back the film rights to Marvel characters; it was to buy the entirety of 20th Century Fox movie studios. Reports suggest Fox wants to become a smaller company, focusing on their news and sports channels. No idea why the talks of the acquisition ended, I'm going to unfairly say it was something Fox did.

Disney/Marvel is on top of the world with Thor Ragnarok catapulting the MCU over the $5Billion mark domestically. While out of every 20th Century Fox film, they seemingly only find success with X-Men related movies, still the X-Men Universe comes in far behind with $2Billion domestically. Television is a different story. Marvel's Inhumans series is unwatchable. This is perhaps the wake-up-call Marvel needed to realize that the Mutants can't be replaced with Z-list knock-offs. Perhaps that was what ignited the talks. On the other hand, Fox isn't batting 1000 with the mutants either. Legion was great but The Gifted is a sappy, melodramatic snore.

None of that matters anyway. The actual goal was for Disney to add a massive amount of content as they gear up for the launch of their streaming service in 2019. No idea if any Marvel representatives were even present at the meetings.

Talks may have stalled for the moment, but they could easily resume. The main thing to take from this is that Disney wants to buy Fox....and getting Marvel's X-Men and Fantastic Four character rights back are just a bonus. A huge, earth-shattering bonus that would change the MCU forever.
