Marvel Trailers galore

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man Homecoming have recently released short teasers, set visit articles, Q&A sessions with the Directors, and random pics on Twitter. At last, the official Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer was released several days ago and last night Spider-Man Homecoming debuted its first trailer. There are dozens of reasons I want 2016 to be over with; one of which being 2017 will be the first year Marvel releases three Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, one more than usual thanks in part to the cooperation with Sony Pictures. Marvel's/Disney's plan from here on out will be to release three MCU films a year.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - May 5th, 2017
Spider-Man: Homecoming - July 7th, 2017
Thor: Ragnarok - November 3rd, 2017

Black Panther - February 16, 2018
Avengers: Infinity War - May 4, 2018
Ant-Man and The Wasp - July 6, 2018

Because they could be considered spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War, the film slate after 2019 has dates reserved but no titles revealed, except Captain Marvel. The tagline for the 4th Avengers squeal, which at one point was going to a continuation of  Avengers: Infinity War until it was determined to be an entirely different narrative not related to Thanos, has yet to be revealed.

Both trailers have the trademark lightheartedness and humor, which I'm speculating may be the last we see of for a while. The third Thor film is titled Ragnarok, a Norse legend about the deaths of many Norse Gods (including Odin, Loki, and Thor himself) and various natural disasters that wipe out Asgard, killing thousands. It seems like darker subject matter than typical of the MCU. I'm sure some humor will be injected into the final cut, most likely coming from the competitive banter between Thor and The Incredible Hulk, but overall it will be a darker film. Plus I'm still hoping that Beta Ray Bill is introduced in the film, perhaps to heroically rescue Thor from his Ragnarok fate at the last, desperate moment. Judging from his debut in Captain America: Civil War, the Black Panther doesn't have a sense of humor so we may not see a lot of laugh out loud moments in his solo film in 2018. Then the divided Avengers come together to face their greatest threat to date in Infinity War, and Thanos is not a joking matter. Not to mention a few of the contracts will be complete as of the third Avengers sequel which may mean multiple emotional deaths. Of course, Ant-Man and The Wasp will be steeped in comedy. I believe that is when the light tone returns in full force, in July of 2018.

Sony obviously wants everyone to know that Spider-Man Homecoming takes place within the MCU, with several shots of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan (Tony Stark's driver and security guard) and the ATM robbers wearing Avenger Halloween masks. Plus Peter Parker's friend drops a Lego Death Star from another Disney property (Star Wars) when he discovers his friend is Spider-Man. The movie looks great with a young, diverse cast and the always brilliant Michael Keaton as the Vulture. It may be the third time the Spider-Man franchise has been rebooted  but Spider-Man Homecoming looks like they finally got everything perfect, and judging from reactions to the trailer on social media it seems nearly everybody is excited about the film.

The teasers keep coming with the announcement of an episodic Guardians of the Galaxy series from Telltale, the makers of very popular The Walking Dead: The Game Telltale series.
